Staying Float – Rising Above the Financial Flood

I have always taken pride in my ability to provide for my family.  Sure there have been ups and downs, but for the most part my family has always been financially comfortable.  Here lately however; we have struggled.  I don’t want to get into any details, but the majority of our issues result in a poor economy and high unemployment rates.  Because of this we have had to completely re-structure our budget.  For me this is torture.  I wasn’t sure how well I was going to do at this, so when I had the opportunity to Continue reading

Mission Impossible – Living for Something Greater than Yourself!

I constantly tell myself that “I want to live for something greater than myself”; however at the same time I find myself questioning my abilities.  Because of this, at times I feel like a failure, but when I look at things from God’s perspective I realize that I am 100% inadequate for the mission that He has in store for my life, but God on the other hand is fully capable.

The one thing I desire so desperately Continue reading

The Church Death Grip – Holding on to the Insignificant

For centuries churches have had their rituals, and sacred practices, and for many of them that is what fuels their very being.  What once was created to worship God eventually becomes an idol (God)  in which takes precedence over the true purpose of the church.

Many times when we talk about holding on to insignificant practices we tend to reference traditional churches, but I started thinking about all the methodologies of many of the  churches that are proclaiming to be cutting edge.  Continue reading

Introducing Creative Arts in a Worship Setting

I have to admit that I am a newbie when it comes to using creative arts in a worship setting, but I am so open to what God is doing in this generation I can’t help but use such elements to engage people in worshiping the one true and Holy God.  I’ve heard it all, “If you use arts in your worship then you are a New Ager or a Universalist”, “God does not receive glory when you don’t do it like ____________” (Feel in the blank).  This is what I have to say about all that… “That’s a bunch of garbage.  Don’t we worship the most creative inspiring God of the Heavens and Earth? God blessed people with creativity and art, and all we want to do is lift up of lip service (empty praise).  I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God wants us to Continue reading

Monday Mind Dump!!

What’s going on people!  Man it has been crazy the last 8 weeks.  I have been on the mission field of church planting North of Kansas City for the last 8 weeks, and God has been doing some awesome things.  I just wanted to take a bit, and in an unorthodox fashion just pour out some of the things that are running through my head.  These are in absolutely no order.

1. Church Planting is hard work!!  If you are contemplating planting a church, you better check yourself.  It may seem like the cool thing to do, but I promise you that if you are not CALLED you will fail, and fail miserably. Continue reading

Forgive and Forget, or Relive and Regret

Everyone that I have encountered over the past few weeks have all had one common denominator: Regret!!

We all tend to have them, and even I struggle with them from time to time. For some of us it is the choices we have made, and for others it might be things that have happened to them. Last night in youth Bible study we talked about Hebrews 12 where it tells us to “lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Unfortunately, many of us are not able to run the race that God has in store for our lives because Continue reading
