Not By Bread Alone

I have spent the last 3 months reading in depth the book “Not By Bread Alone” by Steven W. Waterhouse.  I have to say that this has been one of the most thought provoking books I have ever read.  It is jam packed with knowledge, and it is systematic theology at it’s finest.  This book contains Bibliology, Theology Proper (The Doctrine of God), Angelology, Satanology, Demonology, Anthropology, Hamartiology, Christology, Soteriology, Pneumatology, Ecclesiology, and Eschatology.  Not only does it contain these topics it goes into minute detail of each.  Each chapter could be it’s own mini-book.

I think the thing I loved most about the book is that it gives you insight to many different views of each topic held by different religious groups, and provides you the opportunity to come to a conclusion of  what you believe about that topic on your own.  Dr. Waterhouse shares his views, but does not push his beliefs off on the reader.  I believe different than him on some topics, however because of the way he wrote this book you feel open to believe what you feel convicted to believe.

Westcliff press states – “Not By Bread Alone provides research on all the doctrines of the Bible explaining complex and controversial issues with clear and original logic.”  I have to totally agree with that.  Not to mention the book contains over 8,000 Bible references and has Hebrew/Greek word studies of key theological terms.

If you are a busy pastor, or theology student you have to add this book to your library.  It will save you tons of energy and time, not to mention it will save you from exhaustion  and frustration.

I would highly recommend this book, and would encourage you to add it to your shelves.
